Architecture serves as the vessel of culture, while culture is the soul of architecture. This project is rooted in the strategic background of innovative development and creative inheritance of traditional culture, along with the ongoing efforts to protect and develop Shanghai's Shikumen architecture. Using environmental theater as the entry point, the project draws on the historical and cultural heritage of 1930s Shanghai and its authentic scenes to explore the fusion of environmental theater and traditional architectural space in performance design. Shikumen architecture combines the characteristics of Jiangnan residential houses with Western architectural styles, embodying a blend of East and West. It is not merely a physical structure but a witness to Shanghai's historical and cultural evolution, carrying the essence of Haipai culture.
